I think October is tied with December for my favorite month of the whole year! I just love the season of Fall…so many beautiful and special things are going on. The leaves are changing, the weather is cooling off, the nights are darker.
“There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
We’ve been blessed with a special time to slow down, reflect on the year so far, snuggle up with warm blankets & apple cider, and prepare our hearts & minds for the Advent season. I love everything about Fall…from apples & pumpkins to boots & scarves. It all makes me so happy!
Plus, there are tons of family-friendly Fall activities planned for this time of the year. We are having a hard time picking just a few things to do (because there’s something to be said for minimal scheduling when you have kids)!
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Some things we are looking forward to…
Fall Festivals/Bazaars – our church hosts a big community festival every year with games, inflatables, trunk or treat, rides on an antique fire truck, yummy food and lots of fun! We’ve always preferred to go to this instead of any Halloween trick or treating. One of our local parks does a huge Autumn Jubilee craft fair and I’m praying that this year’s celebration doesn’t get rained out (it’s scheduled for this weekend and we’re in the projected path of Hurricane Joaquin).
Annual Hiking Trip – On 10/10/10 my dear sweet husband took me hiking in the NC mountains where he got down on one knee and proposed. We’ve made it a tradition to go back and hike/picnic every year since then. Last year’s trip was so much fun! I can’t wait for our trip in a few weeks.
Homecoming Weekend – My alma mater (Catawba College) has their Homecoming weekend every October. Since we still live in town, there’s an open invitation to camp out in our backyard for the weekend. We have a huge group of friends planning to attend this year and we couldn’t be more excited!!
What fun things do you have planned this Fall?
I truly hope you and your family have a bountiful and happy October!
