…With Shaving Cream
First, let me clarify that I still shave my legs 🙂 I just do it a little differently now.
Since finding out I was pregnant with Baby A, I’ve taken my family on a journey to do things more naturally. That includes homemade laundry detergent, cloth diaper detergent, dishwasher powder, homemade baby wipes & baby food, and so on.
I’ve also developed a new found obsession with coconut oil so it made sense for me to eliminate traditional shaving cream from my shower routine when my good friend Christine (who blogs over at Crunchee Granola) told me she had started shaving with nothing but coconut oil.
I was so curious and eager to try it. And I’m SO glad that I did…especially when I looked at the ingredients on my can of shaving cream.
|If I can’t pronounce it, it probably shouldn’t be on/in my body!|
Not only is my coconut oil organic but it’s so moisturizing that I don’t have to rub any lotion on my legs afterwards! Plus, I don’t have to worry about any harmful chemicals seeping into my bloodstream.
|Only 1 ingredient and I can pronounce it … much better!|
Why are the ingredients in your beauty products so important?
Just remember that everything you rub on your skin gets absorbed or penetrated by your skin and can get into your blood stream. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and for the most part, it does a good job of blocking toxins, pollutants, etc from getting past the dermis. applying creams & oils to it is NO DIFFERENT than you eating them.

While I’m definitely not perfect when it comes to natural living and there are a few potentially harmful products that I haven’t given up yet, I am thoroughly enjoying this journey that we’re on to a better lifestyle. I’m even more conscious of what I put in and on my body during pregnancy. These habits that we’re forming now will definitely continue after Baby A2 gets here.
So tell me, do you try to eliminate harmful chemicals from your skin care/beauty routine?
