One thing I love about being a mommy is creating new family traditions! It is something that Lee & I have been very intentional about in our family. We want our kids to grow up with a sense of familiarity and stability when it comes to fun things we do as a family.
My favorite tradition that we do is hiking around Linville Falls, NC every October. This tradition is so special to us because it was here on October 10th, 2010 that Lee proposed to me! We’ve been back almost every year since then (we missed the first anniversary of our engagement because we were weeks away from our wedding!)
The weather was beautiful on Saturday, mid-50s and breezy! It made me realize that Fall is truly here and quickly turning into Winter. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of this time of year and not stop to breathe & meditate on beautiful grace of our Lord. I have always thought of Fall as a reminder that no matter what is going on in our lives, God’s love for us NEVER dies. He never changes. His steadfastness is sure.
“I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end.” Daniel 6:26
The Falls are about 2 hours from our house so we loaded up the girls, prayed for travel mercies (and happy babies), and headed out. We packed a picnic lunch that we ended up eating in the car because I had to nurse Ada when we got there and the parking lot was so crowded! We hiked around for about two hours, going to our special spot first so we wouldn’t miss it.
Little Miss Independent did not want much help and loved exploring everything! Her favorite thing at home is to go outside and pick up rocks & sticks so she was in heaven on the trail! Here are some pictures from our hike.
And here is a look back at our previous years of hiking. I love looking back and seeing how much we have changed and who we have added to our family since this tradition started.
So tell me,
-What are your favorite family traditions?
-Do you & your family go hiking at all?
-What is your favorite season?
